Pallet handling and stacking limits

Standard euro pallets are rated for uniformly distributed static loads. When stacking, the lower unit carries the accumulated mass of every unit above it, so the practical limit is set by the weakest package in the column rather than by the pallet itself. Mixed-height columns should be avoided because the load path stops being vertical and the corner posts begin to take shear.

Cold chain gaps during cross-docking

Most temperature excursions happen not in transit but during transfer, when goods wait on the dock. Keeping the staging window under twenty minutes removes the majority of recorded deviations without any change to the vehicles themselves.

Labelling for mixed consignments

Where a consignment contains several order lines for the same consignee, a single consolidated label with line references reduces mis-sorts more effectively than one label per line. Scanners resolve the reference once and the remaining lines inherit the routing.

Return flows

Returns are cheapest to process when they re-enter at the same node that dispatched them, because the item's original record is still resident there. Routing returns to a central point creates a second inbound step with no added value.
